Dean A. Travis “Tack”, age 91, of Hockessin, DE passed away peacefully January 31, 2017, at home.  Born November 1, 1925, in Sayre, Pennsylvania, Dean was a graduate of Sayre High School and a 1947  graduate of Penn State University where he was a member of the football and track teams.  He went on to receive a Master’s of Education from the University of Delaware in 1970.

Dean was a school teacher in Wilmington, Delaware, retiring in 1982 after 34 years of teaching.  He coached football at Wilmington High School in the 1950’s and 1960’s and was a long time employee at Delaware Park and the Brandywine Raceway.  Dean was a past member of the Hershey Mills Golf Club in West Chester, Pennsylvania and a member of the Penn State Football Letterman’s Club.

He is survived by daughters Jane T. Finneseth of Norwich, North Dakota; Joanne L. Fabiano and her husband Vincent of Helotes, Texas; and son John D. Travis and his wife Jody of Newark, Delaware.  Dean is also survived by granddaughters Jessica Flurie and her husband Ryan of West Grove, Pennsylvania; Dana McCloskey and her husband Geoffrey of Wilmington, Delaware; and Elena Fabiano of Helotes, Texas;  six great grandchildren Logan, Bella and Gavin Flurie; Kenleigh and Grace McCloskey; and Juan Batista.  Dean was preceded in death by his wife Jane S. Travis, brother Ray Travis, son-in-law Eugene  Finneseth and granddaughter McKenzie Travis.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Dean on Saturday, February 4, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 901 N. DuPont Street, Wilmington, Delaware 19805, where family and friends may call after 9:15 a.m. 

The family would like to thank the staff at the Summit for the extraordinary care and services provided to Dean as a resident since July of 2016.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Anthony of Padua Church at the address listed above.
