Lucia Marcelli, age 93, Wilmington, Delaware passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024. Lucia was born March 28, 1930 in Sant’Omero, Nereto in Teramo, Italy. Lucia is the of daughter of Gennaro Pulcini and Candelora Spitilli. She was raised Catholic. On February 2, 1956, she married Elpidio Marcelli in Nereto, Italy.
Lucia and Elpidio moved to Wilmington, Delaware and settled in Little Italy where she enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. While she lived in Delaware, she worked at a sewing mill in Maryland and, for most of her career, she worked at Mrs. Robino’s Restaurant right in the heart of Little Italy.
Lucia Marcelli found joy in cooking, working in her garden, going to church, and especially loving her family and friends. She was known for jarring her sauce for Sunday dinners, making fresh pasta, baking breads and cakes, and her caring-sweet nature. Lucia was an active member of her local Catholic church, St. Anthony of Padua, where she loved attending the St. Anthony’s Italian Festival.
Loved ones that passed away before her are her husband Elpidio Marcelli; her Brother, Abramo Pulcini; and her Father,Gennaro and her Mother, Candelora.
She is survived by her two daughters, Linda Pierce (Donald Pierce) and Florinda Sheahan (Michael Sheahan), and her six grandchildren Stefanie Hansen (Brad Hansen), Samantha Pierce, Sabrina Pierce, Sara Pierce, Tara Sheahan, Christopher Sheahan (Tara Elizabeth Sheahan); and four great grandchildren Jude Sheahan, Jane Sheahan, Grace Hansen, and Madelyn Hansen.
A Mass of Christian Burial Will be Celebrated on Friday March 8, 2024, at 11am in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 9th, and Dupont Sts. Wilmington. Where family and friends are invited to call after 10:30am. Interment will follow Mass in the Cathedral Cemetery.
