David Wayne Barber, age 55, went home to be with the Lord on July 24, 2019 at his home in Perry Pointe, Maryland.
He leaves behind his mother, Diane Burke; wife and love of his life, Katherine Durham; six children: Jennifer Walters, James Durham, Katie Barber, Nicole Durham, Victoria Durham, and David Barber; five grandchildren: Kaden, Lauryn, James, Javari, and David; brothers John Bielicki and Rob Barber; as well as a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Barber; brother Christopher Barber; sister Mary Jo Ellis; twin sister Diana Barber; uncle David “Sonny” Barber and his wife, who was like a mother to him, Frances “Franny” Barber.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware on September 7, 1963, Dave spent his childhood active in sports and the outdoors while he also developed a deep love for God. As a young man, Dave joined the US Navy in 1981 and served his country as petty officer second class traveling the world through 1985. He was a machinist mate, operating steam propulsion engines. He traveled across the world, from Iceland to Australia, serving two tours in Guantanamo Bay for readiness training.
After leaving the service, Dave spent a decades-long career in pipe fitting in the Tri-State area while also raising a large family. He lived and loved to serve others, but had no greater joy in life than spending time with his children and grandchildren. Dave’s presence was known when he walked in any room and he will be dearly missed by so many. Even throughout life’s toughest moments, Dave’s strength, strong will, and faith always guided his way; may he rest free at last.
A Memorial Service will be held at Corleto Latina Family Center, 807 N. Union Street, Wilmington, DE.19805 on Thursday, August 8, 2019 from 10am to 12 noon. Interment will be immediately following at 1pm at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, New Castle County, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, Delaware.
