Donato L. Fato, “Don” 83, died peacefully at home on Saturday, December 9,2017 surrounded by his family. Born to immigrant parents, Daniel and Antoinette Fato, he was proud of his Italian heritage. A graduate of P.S. Dupont High School, he then served in the U.S. Marine Corp. Don was employed by Union Park Pontiac as a salesman and manager for over 40 years. After retiring, he went on to assist his dear friend Gabe Staino at his dealership in Chadds Ford, Pa. An avid Philadelphia Eagles fan, he also enjoyed boating and playing cards. Don was well respected, kind hearted and generous.
A man of his word, he was always available to lend an ear or helping hand. A devoted husband, he is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 42 years, Philomena Delloso Fato, brother Mel Fato, sister Rose Fato, nephews Michael, Josh, Adam, Brooks and Fletcher. Also, sisters in law, Margaret Delloso Barba, Rita Reese (Todd) and brother in law, Louis Delloso (Lori), with whom he shared a special bond, and was like a son to him. Nephew Michael Delloso Barba and niece Jessica Clough (Mark), great nephew Anthony DeBonaventura and great nieces, Gianna and Viviana Clough. In addition to his parents, he is pre-deceased by his in laws, Louis and Philomena Delloso and nephew, Nicky Delloso Barba. Don’s loss will be profoundly felt by his family.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, December14, 2017 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9th and Dupont Streets, Wilmington, De, followed by entombment at Cathedral Cemetery. Call hours are 10am-Noon, followed by Mass at noon.
