Joseph DaVia Obituary

Joseph Eusebio DaVia was called to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 4, 2018.  He was surrounded by his loving family.  Joseph was born in Wilmington Delaware on November 27, 1930.  He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carmelina J. DaVia (Papa) of Landenberg PA, his children Stephanie Marcil of Fredericksburg, VA, Joseph P. DaVia (wife Heather) and Dorina Keffer (husband David) of Westminster, MD and grandchildren, Stephen Marcil (wife Liz) of Charlotte, NC, Jennifer Marcil of Fredericksburg, VA, Lauren and Matthew Keffer and Sarah and John DaVia of Westminster, MD.  His family and grandchildren brought him the greatest joy.

 

Joseph graduated from Salesianum High School and was an altar boy at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church for many years.  There is a beautiful mural in the choir loft which includes Joseph as a young boy.  He attended Villanova University, enlisted in the Army during the Korean War and graduated from the Dept. of Defense Language School in Monterey California with fluency in Hungarian.  He had a distinguished 33-year federal career with the National Security Agency, Fort Meade, MD as a senior analyst. 

 

Joseph loved playing golf, he was President of Men’s Assoc. at Loch Nairn Golf Club. He spent many days crabbing on the Chesapeake Bay, He was an avid reader, sometimes reading several books a week.  He loved the Washington Redskins and the Baltimore Orioles.

 

He loved bringing the whole family together at Bethany Beach for almost 20 years.

 

He will be missed.

 

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday November 8, 2018 at 1:30 pm at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9th and Dupont Sts., Wilmington, where family and friends are invited to call after 12:30pm.  Interment will be held in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE on Friday, November 9th at 10:00am.
