Josephine R. Panariello

October 12 1930- August 15 2017

On August 15, 2017, Josephine Rita Panariello (nee Giorgi), age 86, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Josephine was born on October 12, 1930 in Piedilama, Italy to the late Salvatore and Livia Giorgi. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Francis A Panariello Jr, who passed away in 2002; her eldest son Francis A Panariello III; and her sisters, Marie Annone and Antoinette Frank.

Josephine came to the United States as a young girl in 1936. She graduated from H. Fletcher Brown Vocational High school in 1949. She was a hairdresser and loving homemaker to her four children. One of her greatest pleasures was gathering family and friends around her table for a home cooked Italian meal. She was a devoted member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality and member of the Junior Board of St. Francis Hospital, often seen volunteering in the Pollyanna gift shop. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Anthony’s of Padua Church and served on the parish council.

Josephine will be dearly missed by her children Joanne Ryan (Thomas), Salvatore (Patricia), and Michael (Beth); daughter-in-law, Elizabeth; grandchildren Salvatore, Kristin, Juliana, Nicholas, and Anthony; great granddaughter, Samantha; brothers Joseph, Pietro, and John Giorgi, and numerous nieces and nephews, to whom she was fondly known as Aunt Jo.

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at the Compassionate Care Unit at St Francis Hospital, specifically Rima and Dr. Dan, for their support.

There will be a viewing at CORLETO-LATINA FUNERAL HOME, 808 N. Union Street, Wilmington, on Sunday evening, August 20 from 4-7pm. A mass will take place at St Anthony’s of Padua Church on Monday afternoon, August 21 at 2pm. Burial will take place at Delaware Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, on Wednesday morning, August 23, at 11am.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Josephine's memory to St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 901 N. DuPont Street, Wilmington, DE. 19805
