Alfonse Simeone (Al) 4/30/1949-7/2/2021 (72) Alfonse was born in Wilmington, DE. The son of the late Alfonso and Angeline Simeone, the fourth of six siblings. Alfonse graduated from St. Anthony of Padua Grade School and Salesianum High School, Class of 1967. He was a member of the Prince of Piedmont Lodge 475, The Wilmington Wine Guild and Delcastle Men’s Golf Club. He completed his apprenticeship with the IBEW Local 654 and went on to work as a Journeyman Electrician for I.B.E.W. Local 654, Aston, PA. Later he worked as a Field Engineer at various nuclear power plants. Al was also a certified inspector and worked for Building Inspection Underwriters, Inc after his retirement. In his early years Al moved to Somerset Pa., where he started a Chimney Sweep business. His life on the farm was enjoyed by his entire family especially his parents and Aunts and Uncles. Every Presidents Day all his nieces and nephews enjoyed a weekend of sledding, snow mobile riding, skiing and cookouts on the back mountain which ended another perfect weekend. Al sold his farm and eventually moved back to Delaware where he worked as a contractor at the DuPont Experimental Station eventually retiring from KBR Contracting. Alfonse made many friends and developed an extensive extended family during his years working in the electrical business. He was the “go to guy” and would always be there to assist in anything his family or friends would ask of him. He took pleasure in helping others, he was a kind, generous and big hearted person. Al was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He enjoyed wine making, surf fishing, playing golf, hunting and bocce ball. Uncle Al loved teaching his nephews how to fish and body surf at the drive-on beaches at the Delaware Seashore State Parks, being near the ocean at 7:00 in the morning, having his coffee and enjoying the sunrise. Rehoboth was his “happy place”. Al took classes in wine making at Cornell University in New York City and Napa Valley in California. His wine making skills were second to none which he took very seriously, won many awards, and we all enjoyed the fruits of his labor. Al started the “Vari Cousins Wine Share”, making barrels of wine yearly and teaching the skill to his apprentices. Al taught the younger generations of his family to carry on this tradition and they will miss his knowledge immensely. Al will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Lee Simeone, his stepchildren Sarah Bartel (Mike) and Joshua Bartel (Heather), his God-children Joshua Mihaly, Bethany Malloy Keith, Marc Simeone and Lincoln Blackwell, who he loved and spoiled tremendously, numerous nieces and nephews who will miss him terribly. He was loved and cherished by his sisters Marianne Mihaly, Janice Malloy (Daniel), Claire Layton (Carl), and brothers Anthony Simeone (Laurel), and Francis Simeone (Deborah). Lee would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital and the aides and nurses at Compassionate Care especially Jessica and Ben for their assistance in keeping Al comfortable and peaceful in his time of need.
