Anne Lavery Olivere, age 84 of Wilmington, DE and a proud Scot, born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland, died on Sunday, July 2, 2023. Anne was a beloved wife, mom, grandmom, sister, and devoted friend to countless lives on two continents. Hers was a life celebrated for family, friendship and “the man upstairs” as her mammie, Annie Lavery, often reminded her and her siblings and the generations that followed; simple words which guided a life filled with love, laughter, and faith.
After growing up in Glasgow, Anne was encouraged by her father, Peter, to venture across the Atlantic and pursue her own American dream. In 1959, Anne heeded her father’s sage words and moved to Wilmington, Delaware at the tender age of 20. Despite doubt, a new continent, and the heartache of leaving her close-knit family, Anne forged a path in the U.S; a path which eventually brought her parents (Peter and Annie) and four siblings (Peter, Mary Jo, Sam and Jane) leaving generations of the Lavery clan in Scotland to embrace a new life across on a foreign shore. Her trailblazing leap of faith also led to a chance meeting with her soulmate, Rich Olivere. It was a meeting that provided the spark for a 60-year marriage producing three children and six grandchildren raised with a mix of old world values in a melting pot of new world ideas and entrepreneurial spirit.
Anne’s legacy of unwavering love for family and friends, guided by a deep and abiding faith, will carry on through countless future generations with her life story as its bedrock.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Annie and Peter, sisters Margaret and Jane, and husband Rich. She is survived by her siblings Peter (Barbara), Sam (Kathleen), Mary Joe; her children Rick (Maria), Chris (Liv), Tracy Argo (Dean), and her pride and joy grandchildren, Vincent, Stephen (Kristy), Francesca, Christopher, Brandon and Adam and adored nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Monday, July 10, 2023 from 10:30am to 11:30am at the Corleto-Latina Family Center, 807 N Union Street, Wilmington, Delaware with services starting promptly at 11:30am.
