Daniel J. Haas

Daniel Joseph Haas passed away on November 5, 2021, in Newark Delaware after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 28, 1953, he was the son of Robert John Haas and Teresa Lee Williams. 

A true Renaissance man, Dan (or Danny, as he was known to some) was a carpenter, scholar, philosopher, dreamer, cook, adventurer, musician, and most of all, a man of spirituality and faith. He was a friend to everyone he met and shared all he had to offer wherever he went. He was a beautiful soul and had so many dreams that he would have needed multiple lives to experience them. He left this world surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

Dan is survived by his love, Elizabeth McEwen; his daughters whom he adored, Rachel Haas Cooney, Lauren Haas, and Sarah Diaz; the mother of his beloved children, Elizabeth Haas; his grandchildren Eden, Violet, Isaiah, Ezra, Shiloh, and Gideon; a tangled clan of brothers and sisters; and his loyal companion Ellie.

In remembrance of Dan's life, the family asks that any charitable donations you wish to make go to support the things he cherished, such as the Chesapeake Bay and the sustainability of Smith Island.

A memorial service for Daniel Joseph Haas will be held on Friday, December 3rd at the The Ponderosa Barn of the Hoilman residence. 

There will be a visitation time from 2:00-3:00, followed by the Memorial Service from 3:15-4:30, with light refreshments afterward until 5:30. We invite you to visit with us and honor the memory of Dan’s life together.
