On July 22, 2020, Dolores “Lola” Ortiz Melendez earned her wings at the age of 75. She was born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico on May 26, 1945 to Severiana (Severa) Melendez and Perpetuo (Pepe) Ortiz. Lola dedicated her life to raising her 4 daughters. She lived in Puerto Rico until November 2, 1985, when she moved to Long Island, New York in search of a new chapter in her life. In August of 1989, she moved to Delaware. She subsequently worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Wilmington VA Medical Center for 12 years before retiring.
Lola loved music, especially any song that allowed her to show off her dancing moves. She was most notably known for her signature move, el beeper. She also loved to read, laugh at a good joke, and spend time with her daughters, grand and great-grandchildren, and sisters. As a member of Freedom Church of God, she enjoyed attending services and worshipping with her extended family.
She is survived by her daughters, Wanda, Brenda, Judith (Judy), and Miriam; her sons-in-law, Paul and Junior; 9 grandchildren, Yashira, Janice, Yesenia, Joseph, Bryan, Edwin, Michael, Alexander, and Gabriel; 9 great-grandchildren, London, Isaiah, Janice Yvette, Luke, Giovanni, Eternity, Jordan, Anthony and Jaelyn; her 6 sisters and 2 brothers. She was preceded by her mother, father, 3 brothers and her sister.
