Edward Leon Magdycz, 74, of Port St. Lucie, FL passed away peacefully on June 28, 2022, with his family by his side. Ed was born and raised in Wilmington to Edward C. and Jeanette (Nierychlewski) Magdycz.
Ed was a 1966 graduate of Salesianum High School where he won letters in both football and baseball. He was selected to play in the 1966 Blue/Gold All-Star game. In 1967, he attended Massanutten Military Academy where he was awarded The President’s Cup for his athletic and academic achievements and later earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the University of Delaware.
After college, Ed worked for Vollrath Foodservice Company as a regional sales representative before relocating to Florida where he met his wife Gail. Until his retirement in 2021, Ed worked in property management for various companies in the South Florida area.
One of his greatest passions in life was his love of sports. He spent countless hours in the backyard teaching his children the sport of softball and baseball. Ed loved coaching. Always serving in a volunteer capacity, he coached in Suburban Little League where he led his teams to numerous championships. He especially loved talking sports with his grandchildren and hearing about their latest games.
Ed loved laughing and spending time with his friends and family. He always made people laugh by his quick-witted sense of humor and perfectly timed sarcastic comments. On the weekends, you would find Ed watching sports on TV, throwing something on the grill then having a glass of Jack Daniels while smoking a fine cigar. Throw in a round of golf and that was his idea of a great weekend.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years Gail (Fiegler), his children Stacy Sophy (Mark) of Townsend and Scott Magdycz (Rebekah) of Collegeville, PA. He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Megan and Matthew Carroll, Zakary and Jakob Sophy, Ava, Clare, and Nora Magdycz and Jack Sanders; mother in law Zoila; brother in laws Gary and Al; uncles Eddie and J.R.; along with many cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter Kristen Magdycz Carroll; father in law Marcos; aunts Bernadette Czarnecki, Veronica Szczepkowski and Helen Zaremba (Thomas).
A celebration of Ed’s life will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Corleto Latina Family Center (807 N. Union St. Wilmington, DE 19805) from 9:30am-11:30am.
