Eladio “Layo” Figueroa, 92, of Wilmington DE, passed away peacefully @ Christiana Hospital on Thursday November 25, 2021. Eladio was born on February 18, 1930, in Toa Alta Puerto Rico to the late Jose Figueroa-Cosme and Justina Marcano-Cintron. He was the oldest of 9 children. At a young age, Eladio began working to help his parents. He worked hard in the fields of Puerto Rico until he decided to relocate in New Jersey and later moving to Delaware. Working many jobs Eladio was able to continue providing for his family and children in Puerto Rico.
Eladio is known by so many people for his humbled self, his big heart and love for everyone. He enjoyed a game of dominoes and a shot of “Pitorro” when able possible. His kindness for other went above and beyond. He was an active member of St. Paul’s Parish in Wilmington. He was a member of the Cursillo movement and Ministers of Hospitality. He met his loving wife Maria “Merin” Figueroa and while attending a Charismatic Retreat they both received the blessing of the Holy Matrimony. Eladio and Maria took those vows very serious and made themselves a promise to love and cherish each other forever.
Eladio is proceeded in death by loving wife Maria V Figueroa, his parents, his son Eladio Figueroa Jr., his sisters Tomasia “Masia” Figueroa and Eduarda “Lula” Figueroa, brother Miguel A Figueroa.
Eladio is survived by his children; Blanca Figueroa (Caslin), Manuel De Jesus Figueroa, Maricela Figueroa-Cosme (Jorge L Rivera-Bauza) all of Puerto Rico, Raymundo Figueroa (Soledad) of Wilmington DE and stepdaughters Maribel Hernandez (Francisco) of Florida and Carmen M Silva (David) of Wilmington. In addition to his children, Eladio is survived by his siblings Juana Lydia Figueroa, Delia M Figueroa, Rafael Figueroa all of Puerto Rico, Maria “Panchita” Figueroa of Wilmington and Jose Figueroa Jr. (Elenia) of Newark and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and friends.
The family of Eladio wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to Season’s Hospice and the Parish of St. Paul’s for all the love and comfort provided during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request sending a donation to St. Paul’s Parish in Wilmington.
Today Eladio and Maria are rejoicing in the presence of our Savior Jesus Christ. They are together again forever and ever.
