Formerly of Wilmington Delaware, he was born to the late Flaviano Calvarese and Norma Trincia Calvarese on July 31, 1926. In addition to his parents, Phil was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 65 years, Theresa Spiezio Calvarese and siblings: Joseph, Augustine, and Florence Calvarese Centrella. Phil served in the U.S. Navy near the end of World War II as a baker stationed in the Pacific on a Destroyer, U.S.S. Topeka. He attended several Navy Reunions and was proud to be a Navy Veteran. Upon returning home from service, Phil worked for both family businesses, Silvio’s Bar & Restaurant and T & C Bakery. Phil later became a hair stylist. He first managed Central Beauty Salon in Wilmington located in Midway Shopping Center and eventually co-owned the business when they relocated to Prices Corner Shopping Center.

Playing golf nearly every day, he had eight hole in ones on an executive golf course. He was a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan that patiently waited for Superbowl LII. Phil was a man of principle and proud of his Italian heritage. He was also passionate in his views and was never afraid to express them.
