                     Fillipo (Phil) Calvarese

On March 5, 2021 Phil Calvarese Sr., loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle passed away at the age of 94 at Avow Hospice in Naples Florida. Formerly of Wilmington Delaware, he was born to the late Flaviano Calvarese and Norma Trincia Calvarese on July 31, 1926. In addition to his parents, Phil was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 65 years, Theresa Spiezio Calvarese and siblings: Joseph, Augustine, and Florence Calvarese Centrella. Phil is survived by his sister: Patricia Calvarese Lane, sons: Philip Jr. (Linda) and Robert Sr. (Marianne), three grandchildren: Robert Jr., Andrew (Angelina), Patrick (Stephanie), and six great grandchildren.

Phil served in the U.S. Navy near the end of World War II as a baker stationed in the Pacific on a Destroyer, U.S.S. Topeka. He attended several Navy Reunions and was proud to be a Navy Veteran. Upon returning home from service, Phil worked for both family businesses, Silvio’s Bar & Restaurant and T & C Bakery. Phil later became a hair stylist. He first managed Central Beauty Salon in Wilmington located in Midway Shopping Center and eventually co-owned the business when they relocated to Prices Corner Shopping Center.

At age 62, Phil retired and then spent his golden years with Theresa in Naples Florida. His hobbies included: golf, baking, and committee membership for the High Point County Club. Playing golf nearly every day, he had eight hole in ones on an executive golf course. He was a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan that patiently waited for Superbowl LII. Phil was a man of principle and proud of his Italian heritage. He was also passionate in his views and was never afraid to express them.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 12 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Wilmington Delaware by invitation only. Due to Covid-19, face masks and social distancing for all in attendance are required. Interment will be held privately.
