Francis J. Lewis

On February 27, 2021, Francis J. Lewis Sr, age 84, suddenly passed away at his residence in Bay City, Millsboro, DE. He was a former resident of Penn Acres, New Castle, DE. Franny was preceded in death by his wife Judith (Bratton) Lewis, parents Angelo & Anna Lewis, and sister Angela Welker. 

Franny graduated from Christ Our King School and PS DuPont High School where he excelled as an athlete. He proudly served in the Delaware National Guard and was an inspector in the construction projects of the JFK Memorial Highway and the second span of the Delaware Memorial Bridge. He retired in 1998 after 30 years of employment at Delaware Beverage.

Franny enjoyed his weekends and vacation time at his beach house in Bay City where he was affectionately known as "Poppie" and "The Mayor of Bay City". Franny was always helping friends with weekend projects at the beach. He was also an avid boater, crabber, clammer and fisherman.  He could be found at the ballpark coaching for Babe Ruth Little League; many players viewed him as their mentor.

He is survived by his children Lisa (Michael) Poplos, Francis (Deborah) Lewis, and Michael Lewis. Grandchildren Stephanie, Kathleen, Alexis, Zachary, Aiden, and Garrett; 6 great grandchildren; and a special cousin Lucy Webster who helped with his care.

A viewing will be held on Friday, March 5th at Corleto-Latina Family Center, 807 N. Union St. Wilmington, DE 19805, Starting at 11:00am & Concluding promptly at 1:00pm. COVID-19 restrictions apply, and masks are required. Burial will be private.
