Gary Gleason Obituary

Gary Alan Gleason, age 50, of Wilmington, DE passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023. Gary was born in Milford, DE on February 2, 1973. He graduated from Milford High School. Following right after, Gary  served for four years with the U.S. Air Force during Desert Storm, after which he received an honorable discharge. He loved his country and being a veteran. He was a proud member of the Diamond State VFW Post 2863 since 2009,  and a Commander there from June 2023 until his passing.

He went on to attend Delaware Technical and Community College, where he obtained two Associate degrees, in Culinary Arts and Food service Management Technology. He had a very long, successful career in the hospitality industry ranging from restaurants to schools. Most recently, Gary was with Colonial School District for the past 5 years as the Nutrition Service manager, where he was not only a huge part of the three schools he served, but also made sure to do his best to celebrate every student he came across and to put a smile on their faces – even if that meant dressing up as a turkey during Thanksgiving or Santa Clause himself.

Gary had a love for many things: Philly sports, especially his Eagles, he loved cooking and trying new restaurants, listening to music and DJing for different events, but most of all, Gary loved his big (loud) orange Harley Davidson and being a part of charity work – even more so when he could combine the two. Gary participated in bike runs over the last 12 years and he loved every minute of it. To say that Gary enjoyed spending time with his family and friends would be an understatement; they were his entire world. Gary will be greatly missed by all those who knew him, who got to experience his terrible dad jokes, who rode with him, and those who truly got to experience him in his element.

Gary is survived by his wife of nearly 27 years, Kathleen (Jacobi) Gleason; his parents, James and Bonnie Gleason; his two stepchildren, Michael Jacobi and Lyndse Marriott (Alex), and grandson, Rowan; his siblings, Heather Gleason (Frank), Michael Gleason (Sara), Mark Gleason (Jackie), and Elizabeth Gleason (Rob); and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, sister and brother- in-laws, and beloved friends. Gary is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Joseph and Delores Marvel and his paternal grandparents Charles and Clara Gleason.

A Prayer Service will be celebrated on Tuesday December 19, 2023 During the Visitation at 7:30pm.  The Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 19th, 2023, from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at CORLETO-LATINA FAMILY CENTER 807 N. Union Street, Wilmington, DE 19805. The burial will be private.
