Giuseppe D'Arro

Giuseppe (Joe) D’Arro, age 90, a resident of Wilmington Delaware for many years, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on February 26, 2023 at The Residence of Chadds Ford, where he lived his final months. Born on April 1, 1932 in the seaside Village of Calatabiano Sicily to Francesco D’Arro and Carmela Lo Giudice, Giuseppe left post world war Sicily at the age of 17 to find work opportunity in Australia where he worked cutting sugar cane and in various other jobs for 10 years. Subsequently, he reunited with his family who had preceded him in emigrating to the U.S.

After working as a toolmaker in various machine shops, for many years thereafter Giuseppe trained himself to be a businessman and real estate investor and developer. Giuseppe gained a reputation as a man with a deep passion and extraordinary stamina for work. He was a self-sufficient and self-made entrepreneur with a sense of determination and focus like no other.  He was uniquely skilled at time management and his ability to prioritize and plan his work. And this was not done with the aid of a computer, but rather an index card in his shirt pocket. Invariably the optimist, there was never any problem in pursuing his work ambitions that made him feel oppressed or intimidated ever. He was most proud of his great productivity and ability to provide for his family. He made time to cultivate and nurture his gardens, grow fruits, vegetables, and flowers in abundance to share generously with family and friends.

Giuseppe is survived by his wife of 56 years, Pina; his Daughter Carmelina (Charlie), his Son Francesco (Rosario); his Sister Rosaria Scalora; his Niece, Carmela Skomorucha (David); and Nephew, Mario Scalora.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday March 6th, 2023 at 11:00am at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Catholic Church, 10 Old Church Rd. Wilmington 19807.  Family and Friends are invited to visit with the family prior to Mass starting at 10:00am.  Interment will follow Mass in the St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church Cemetery.
