Joan Del Giorno was called to rest on September 27, 2018. She was surrounded by her loving family and selflessly decided to donate her body to science at the University of Pennsylvania in hopes of helping others.
Joan was born in Wilmington, DE on February 14, 1945 where she lived her whole life. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Peter Del Giorno Sr. who was her partner and best friend in life, her daughter Kathy Diamanty and her husband John , her sons Peterpaul of Florida and Jody of Wilmington, her sister Kathy (McCartney) Fenner and brother-in-law Dick of Irvine, CA, her two grandsons who were the light of her life, Thomas and Peter Diamanty and her nephew Richard Fenner of London. Joan was predeceased by her brother, Thomas McCartney, and her loving parents Lawrence McCartney and Yolanda and Louis Corrozi. Joan also leaves behind many very close family members and friends.
Nothing gave Joan more pleasure than sharing her home, her food and her heart with whomever entered. After graduating from Padua Academy, Joan spent her life raising, nurturing and loving her family and friends. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed spending time in Rehoboth Beach, playing Bunco with her friends, lunching with the Red Hatters and travelling.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Joan at Blue Ball Barn, 1914 West Park Drive, Wilmington on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at 3:00 PM.
Her family would like to thank the dedicated physicians and staff at the University of Pennsylvania for their loving, compassionate care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan's name can be made to Penn Medicine, 3535 Market Street, Suite 750, Philadelphia, PA 19104.
