Karen Ann Sestak (Ciarlo) of Lewes, Delaware, formerly of Wilmington, passed away on November 9, 2024, at the age of 61. Born on April 20, 1963, in Wilmington, Delaware, Karen was a beacon of love and compassion, known for her radiant smile and signature red lipstick.
Karen graduated from Ursuline Academy and went on to earn a degree from the University of Delaware. Her career as a nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Christiana Hospital was marked by unwavering dedication to her tiny patients, earning her numerous commendations for her compassionate care.
Beyond her professional life, Karen was a vibrant soul cherished by her family and friends. She was a loving, faithful, caring, forgiving, and compassionate individual, holding a special place in the hearts of all who knew her. She is survived by her loving husband, Joseph Sestak of Lewes. Karen's love for her family was profound, including her adoration for her parents, Vincent and Virginia (Mitchell) Ciarlo; her siblings, Catherine Cirino (Bob), Cecilia Ciarlo (Tracy), and Vince Ciarlo (Tammy); her children, Sarah Simpson, Rebecca Green (Tyler), Sean Simpson (Maddie), and stepson Evan Sestak (Eddie); and her beloved grandchildren, Easton, Reagan, McKinley, Brooks, Evalin, and Kennedy. She also shared her love with countless nieces and nephews.
Karen leaves behind a legacy of kindness and an indelible mark on the hearts of her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire those who were touched by her life.
Karen's life will be celebrated by her family, friends, and all those she touched with her kindness and loving nature.
Mass of Christian Burial for Karen will be held Thursday, November 21st at St Anthony of Padua Church, 901 N. DuPont St. Wilmington, Delaware 19805 at 12noon. A visitation will be from 10am to 12noon prior to Mass. A celebration of life will be held following Mass at Fournier Hall, adjacent to the church
