Katherine Durham

Katherine Louise Durham (Merrick), age 56, went home to be with the Lord on June 29, 2020 at her home in Wilmington, Delaware.

She leaves behind her mother, JoAnn Merrick; six children: Jennifer Walters, James Durham, Katie Barber, Nicole Durham, Victoria Durham, and David Barber; six grandchildren: Kaden, Lauryn, James, Javari, David, and soon to be born Katherine; brothers Steve Merrick and Scott Merrick; sister Meg Jones; as well as, a host of extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father James Merrick; aunt Francis (Franny) Barber; and husband and love of her life, David Barber.

Born in Wilmington, Delaware on January 7, 1964, Kate had a childhood filled with love. With countless fishing trips with her Dad, to family vacations and the beach, to aspiring to be the lead singer in a rock band, Kate lived and loved life.

Kate started a family early in life, and the love of her husband and children quickly became her focus and strength. Whether she was cooking dinner to order for her six kids, caring for others as a medical aid, or being a cheerleader and encourager of her family and friends, Kate was the ultimate care giver. No matter your background, Kate did not judge. She could always be counted on to root for the under dog and be a champion of those often overlooked.

As a believer, Kate’s faith and love of the Lord was strong. She has now joined her Dad, reunited in love with Dave, and with our Lord in Heaven. May she rest in perfect peace.     

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 7th, 2020 at 12noon at the Corleto Latina Family Center, 807 N. Union St. Wilmington, DE. 19805 where family and friends may call after 11am.

Due to COVID-19, the number of funeral attendees will be limited. As we encourage friends and family to attend and pay respects, please be mindful that there may be others outside waiting for people to exit before they will be let in. Also, everyone will be required to wear a mask. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
