Lawrence S Giordano

With love, we sadly announce the passing of Dr. Lawrence S. Giordano on Tuesday June 30, 2026. He was born on July 27th, 1942 in Wilmington, Delaware to Alfonso and Martha Giordano.

He attended Salesianum High School, did his undergraduate work at the University of Delaware, and graduated from the University of Maryland Dental School in 1967. He then served in the United States Air Force as Captain in Clovis, New Mexico as General Dentist. He later returned to Wilmington and began his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Wilmington Hospital and then Boston University Hospital. During this time, he met the love of his life, Christina, and married within a year. Later they had two children… Geoffrey and Mark.

He began his own oral surgery practice in Pike Creek, while also being on staff at Christiana Hospital for 50 years, including being Assistant Director for the Oral and Maxillofacial residency program. He served as president of the Mid-Atlantic Oral and Maxillofacial Society and the Delaware State Dental Society. He also wrote the regulations for the State of Delaware defining the additional training dentists need to deliver sedation and anesthesia procedures. A renowned surgeon in the state, he was well known and respected for his charity, generosity, kind demeanor… and his sure steady hands dedicated to helping and healing. He loved his work and cared deeply for his patients.

Family was the joy of his life but he also loved to laugh and to make people laugh as a master at telling funny stories and jokes. He loved cooking, and was especially famous amongst his friends for his “Pesto Parties”. He enjoyed throwing dinner parties, large and small, for family and friends; for holidays or just for fun; at home and at the beach… moments cherished by all who came. He loved his classic cars, owning many through the years and loving the shows and magazines about them … and he loved his country, a patriot in the truest sense of the word. He enjoyed learning and reading about the accomplishments and sacrifices of our founding fathers who formed it and the leaders and soldiers who fought for it… and he was also well known and regarded for his political thoughts, opinions, and his many letters to the editor in local newspapers on the subject.

Anyone who knew him knew that he was the most loving father and husband, the most caring brother and son, and the most amazing friend and colleague anyone could ever ask or hope for.

He was predeceased by his father Alfonso and mother Martha … his brother Marty and sister Christine, and his son Mark. He is survived by his brother Phillip, his sister Marcia, his son Geoffrey and his wife Christina.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Lawrence on Tuesday July 14th at 11:30am at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 9th and Dupont Streets, Wilmington.  Where Family and friends are invited to a visitation starting at 9:30am.  Internment will immediately follow Mass in Cathedral Cemetery.
