Leon Joseph Silicki, 68, of Wilmington, DE, passed away November 19th, 2023 at Christiana Hospital after a short, but serious illness.
He was born July 10,1955 in Wilmington, Delaware. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Josephine Obara Silicki and his cousin/best friend, Steve Wisniewski.
Leon was an entrepreneur who personified the cliche, “He marched to a different drummer.” Leon could make something out of nothing. He started his entrepreneurial activities as a child selling grapes in front of his Grandfather’s house and continued by using his degree in agricultural engineering to create a feed business serving race tracks in the tri-state area eventually establishing Leon’s Garden World. While his professional training was in agriculture, his passion was food. He owned several restaurants throughout his lifetime, but what brought him the most joy was cooking for his friends and family. People looked forward to Leon’s crab feasts and gourmet dinners.
Leon lived life to the fullest. He was a world traveler, avid golfer and salt-water fisherman. Upon retirement, he expanded these activities to Florida where he became a full-time resident.
Leon is survived by Dawn Silicki, his step-son Nicholas Durbin, wife Susannah, granddaughter Eliza, several cousins and lots of good friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30am at St Hedwig Roman Catholic Church, 408 S. Harrison Street, Wilmington, DE., on December 1, 2023 where family and friends may call after 10am. Entombment will follow Mass in Cathedral Cemetery.
