Lillian Burgos Obituary

Lillian Burgos, age 67, loving mother and adoring partner to Pedro Lopez, passed away in the early morning of March 22 after a lengthy battle with a chronic disease. My loving mother took her last breath surrounded by family.  She was born on October 31st, 1957, in Mariana, Puerto Rico to Petra and Nicolas Burgos. After relocating to Delaware, she attended St. Peter’s grade school and later attended Wilmington High school both in Wilmington, DE.  Mom retired from Wilmington Hospital after 25+ years. She was a decorated and devoted employee who took pride in her role as a caregiver.  We will remember her vital role as a Catechism teacher. She also served as a Cursillista at her parish, embodying the teachings of the church; her public service time during many Elections; her volunteer time at the St. Anthony Festivals and the friendships she formed working at the Farmers Market in New Castle, just to name a few.

Mom poured herself into things that brought her joy and purpose. She found joy in a good find at the local second-hand store. She participated and raised funds for a cause that directly affected her family, Breast Cancer. She took pleasure in trips to the beach and perfecting her tan. She enjoyed watching TV shows like Caso Cerrado, 90 Day Fiancé, and Judge Judy. The funniest part was when mom would translate the episodes for my dad then give their own verdict. She felt especially connected to her roots during the holidays- the Parrandas were a favorite!  Mom adored her Wawa coffee.  Mom cared so deeply for family, she generously opened her doors to a niece and nephew. She enjoyed collecting the most realistic baby dolls and using her granddaughter as the excuse for the purchase. Each Halloween she methodically created each costume and couldn’t wait to show it off. She spoke of the importance of faith. Mom radiated patience, compassion, and resilience. Her most rewarding role was being a mom-mom and her most loving and fulfilling role was being the perfect partner to Pedro.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her partner of 40 years Pedro, daughter Natalie (Luigi), grandchildren Amilia, Joshua, and Camila, sister Teresa, niece Nadia, God children Lyniah and Gianni and many families and friends.

We would like to thank the staff at Wilmington and Christiana Hospital. All the providers and specialists that lovingly cared for my mother through the ups and downs of her illness. We are forever in debt to you.

In tribute to Lillian’s beautiful life, please watch this week’s episode of 90 Day Fiancé.
