Maria DiDeo Obituary

PLEASE NOTE:  Although every precaution has been taken to insure our quests and our family feel safe throughout the funeral services for our mother, we certainly understand if you prefer not to attend and simply share a fond memory you may have of our mother.

Maria DiDeo, age 80, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 30, 2021.

Maria was born to Liberata Buzzelli and Antonio Uro in Ortona, Italy, and immigrated to the United States in December 1960 with her husband.

She will be dearly, dearly missed by many, but most of all by her husband of 60 years, Paolino DiDeo, her children, Felicetta Dooley (Jim) and Tony DiDeo (Nery), and her pride and joy, her grandchildren: Rebecca, Nicholas, Sara, Miguel, Ricky, and Julie. She will also be missed by her brother, Victor Uro (Amelia) and his children, and by her extended family in Italy whom she visited frequently over the years.

Maria was the most kind and gentle woman who would go out of her way to help a friend.  She enjoyed going to the Hockessin Athletic Club where she developed strong friendships with a wonderful group of women. Maria was a master seamstress who made beautiful drapes and slipcovers for many people. Her greatest joy was sewing for her family, friends, and for St. Anthony’s Church including the large Italian flags which Fr. Robert asked her to make for the festivities at St. Anthony’s in the Hills.  Maria will forever be remembered for her hospitality and incredible cooking and baking including her pasta, pizza, cookies, cakes, and expresso, her favorite!. Her Sunday and holiday dinners brought family together for food, laughter, and memories that we will treasure for a lifetime. Maria fed everyone she could with her food and her generous spirit.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30am on Friday, February 5, 2021, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 901 N. DuPont St., Wilmington, DE.  Friends may attend a Covid conscious visitation on Thursday evening, February 4, 2021, from 5 to 6:30pm at the Corleto Latina Family Center, 807 N. Union St., Wilmington, DE.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
