Matilde (Rosato) Trincia of Wilmington, Delaware passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 28, 2023. Born in Francavilla al Mare, Abruzzo, Italy on April 2, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Gilberto and Maria Rosato.
Her marriage to her husband Joseph A. (aka “Smodge”) Trincia was held in Italy and blessed by Pope Pius XII in August 1957. She resided in Little Italy Wilmington for 65 years. As an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Matilde volunteered annually at the Italian Festival and was a member of the Feast Day committee. Matilde was a devoted mother and wife, and well known for her Italian cooking, a variety of cookies, Rum cake and so much more. She was proud of her part-time job at Boscov’s which began in her 70s and continued for 15-years.
Matilde is preceded in death by her husband, Joe of 39 years and 2 brothers, 2 sisters, her daughter Patricia Emma Marie Trincia (1960) and grand-daughter Jennifer Trincia. She is survived by her 3 sons, Joe (aka “Pino”) Trincia Jr. and daughter-in-law Lori, Gilberto Trincia, and Roberto Trincia, grandson Anthony J. Trincia, great grand-daughters Alysa Trincia-Jackson and Katrina Trincia, and many nieces and nephews in the US and Italy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 6, 2023 at 11:30 am at St. Anthony of Padua Church located on the corner of 9th and DuPont St., Wilmington, DE 19805. Family and friends may call at the church after 10am. Burial will follow Mass in Cathedral Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to St. Anthony of Padua Parish, 901 N.
