Mel was born in Norfolk, VA on August 8th, 1942 to Clifford and Dorothea Waldron. Mel then resided in Takoma Park, MD where he graduated from High Point High School in 1964. He graduated from the University of Maryland earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing in June of 1964 and then attended the Sterling Institute in Washington, D.C. Mel often spoke of his wonderful “Ozzie and Harriet” childhood, and faith filled upbringing.
He served as a Boy Scout Troop Leader during his high school years and was an active member of DeMolay. He was a proud American and veteran serving in the DC National Guard and Air Force from 1966 through 1971 during the Vietnam Conflict.
Mel’s successful sales career and client following spanned over 55 years because of his sincere and personal approach. Mel loved cars, history and was an insatiable reader. He excelled at gardening, loved flowers and plants of all kinds.
Mel was a devoted and loyal son, brother, father, grandfather, son-in-law, friend and husband. He was intelligent, sweet, kind, funny, gentle, generous, patient, easy going and loving.
He was a courageous man of faith, integrity and honor, who was deeply admired and loved by all who knew him. He was supportive of his family through thick and thin and encouraged them to always pursue their dreams. He was a doting and beloved grandfather. Mel was one of a kind.
Mel was preceded in death by his brother Ron Waldron, sons Kevin Waldron and Glenn Rooks.
Mel is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years Yrene Waldron, daughter Dr. Heather Rooks, granddaughter Adrianna Rooks, grandson Rook Edwards and mother-in-law Yolanda Govin.
