Nicholas James “Nick” DiBuo
February 9, 1949 – October 24, 2025
Nicholas James “Nick” DiBuo, age 76, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025. Nick was born in Wilmington, DE, son of the late Mary (Luciano) and Sisto DiBuo. He graduated from Wilmington High School and attended the University of Delaware. Nick served our nation honorably as a flight medic in the Air National Guard. After he retired from AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals in Newark, he became involved in city and state politics. He was a board member of the Little Italy Neighborhood Association. He worked on numerous projects to improve the neighborhood where he grew up and which he loved. Nick was former Vice Chairman of the Wilmington Delaware Democrat Executive Committee (2013–2017). He was campaign manager for former State Representative Charles Potter, Jr. Nick transitioned from campaign manager to Senior Advisor and worked closely with Representative Potter in Dover. In political circles he was affectionately known as “Nick the Hat.” Nick enjoyed shooting dice at the casinos in Atlantic City and Philadelphia. He was an animal lover and faithfully fed the birds, squirrels, and stray cats that wandered into his backyard. His happiest moments were simply spent surrounded by family and friends. Nick is survived by his devoted wife, Avis DiBuo; two stepdaughters, Avis Jean Francis and Peter of East Falmouth, MA, and Clarissa Grezeszak and Jeff of Oakton, VA; four step‑grandchildren, Lynn and David Francis of East Falmouth, MA, and Ginger and Gwen Wilson of Oakton, VA; one sister, Antoinette Mulle’ and Tony of Babylon, NY; two nephews, Joseph Mulle’ and Christine of Babylon, NY, and Thomas Mulle’ and Caryn of New Canaan, CT; one niece, Anne Marie Mulle' of Babylon, NY; four great‑nieces; and numerous cousins and friends. A Visitation will be held for Nick on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 901 N. DuPont St. Wilmington, DE. 19805 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Interment at Cathedral Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The family would like to thank Accent Hospice for all their care during this difficult time. A very special thank you to Brad Siegfried, Charles Potter, Jr., Dan Burroughs, and Linda Santora for all their love, support, and friendship.
