Passed away peacefully at home Monday, July 11 at the age of 73. He was surrounded by all of his girls including his beloved pets, Luna and Siggi, while listening to his favorite music. Born to Laura (Schivone) Wise and Fred V. Comegys on December 15, 1948 in Wilmington, Delaware.
Randy was a graduate from Conrad high school where he played Varsity Football which started his love and passion for the game. Upon graduating Randy served in the United States Army and obtained the rank of sergeant. While serving he received the following decorations in medals: Sharpshooter Medal qualifying with a rifle M – 14
Marksman Ribbon qualifying with a rifle M – 16
Sharpshooter Medal qualifying with a rifle M – 60 MG
Air medal
National Defense Service Medal
Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal
Army Commendation Medal Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars
Combat Infantryman Badge
After he served in Vietnam he moved to Andros Island, Bahamas and worked for The United States Navy‘s Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) as a torpedo weapon retriever. On February 1, 1973 he received his honorable discharge from the United States Army.
He worked and retired from Conrail in the signals department and then went on to his final career at Parcels Inc. where he retired at the age of 62. Randy’s proudest business endeavor was Comegys Pub, that along with his two brothers, Fred and Mark, opened their doors July 29, 1988 and has been in business for 34 years.
Randy, an affable fellow if ever there was one, could make a friend of anyone in a matter of seconds, be it human or animal no one seemed toscape his magnetism and his humor was unmatched. He loved reading, sports, & all things nature - traveling to New England with his wife and children were some of his favorite past times as well. His favorite day of the week was Sunday where he would prepare his snack tray and cigar to sit in front of the TV and watch his beloved Philadelphia Eagles. Go Birds!
Randy is preceded in death by his father, Fred V. Comegys, Brother Terry, sister Leslie, and son Michael.
He is survived by his mother Laura Wise, His wife of 46 years Patricia Comegys, Daughter’s Kimberly Pini And Megan Comegys, granddaughter Alexis Pini, and great granddaughter Giovanna. His brother‘s Fred Comegys (Terry), Mark Comegys (Letha) and his sister Laurie Lynn Comegys. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours for Randy will be Wednesday July 20th, at the Corleto-Latina Family Center, 807 N. Union Street, Wilmington, DE 19805, from 10am – 12 pm. With a Celebration of his life to follow calling at 12pm. Military honors will be given for Randy immediately following his Celebration of Life at the Corleto-Latina Family Center.
