Richard Weldin Obituary

Richard Weldin, age 74, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away on Saturday September 25, 2021. He was born in Wilmington, DE on August 29, 1947, to the late Joseph R. and Virginia B. Weldin.

Rich is survived by his sister, Air Force Colonel, Patricia Weldin Stationed in San Antonio, Texas, his Brother Keith Weldin of Bear, DE, his son-in-laws Ric Harris and Craig Shaw, Sr., his stepson James Badger, Jr. and 7 grandchildren: Craig, Candice, Michael, Nicole, James, Ricki, and Mackenzi. Rich was predeceased by his wife Theresa A. Weldin, his brother David Weldin, and his stepdaughters Dawn Harris and Wendy Shaw.

Upon graduating from high school Rich worked for The Delaware Luggage company for 2 years before being drafted to the army. After leaving the army, he graduated from Goldey Beacom with a degree in business management. While attending college he began working at Handby’s Office Supplies where he remained for the next 40 years. He also delivered the Morning News in the 9th Ward section of Wilmington. After retiring in 2010 he found a new love, working for the Delaware River and Bay Bridge as a toll taker. He loved interacting with his customers and fellow employees.

In 1979 Richard married his second wife Theresa. He found himself as a stepfather of 2 daughters and a son which he enjoyed very much. Rich, Theresa, and Theresa’s mother Mary would travel to Atlantic City every other Sunday which made lasting memories and quite a few stories. To continue the tradition, after his wife passed away in 2000, Rich began taking his daughters and grandchildren to Atlantic City twice a year, on Labor Day and Super Bowl Sunday. While the family on the trips changed over the years, the place to find Rich did not, always playing the dice on the craps table.

Rich will be laid to rest on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, DE 19701.
