Roy J. Argelander, 71, passed away unexpectedly on September 27, 2023. Born January 26, 1952 in Vienna, Austria, he spent much of his childhood in Glendora, California. He proudly served in the United States Army (’70-’76) and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After an honorable discharge, he made Delaware his home. Roy attended the Delaware State Police Academy (’78) and was a Police Officer in New Castle, DE before entering the private security sector (’82-’11). He ended his working years with Porter Ford. He was a consummate salesman and anyone who knew him knew he had that proverbial gift of gab.
Roy enjoyed traveling and had literally been around the world more than once, enjoyed golfing for many years with his buds, playing a fierce game of Texas Hold’em, and was inseparable from his adoring and devoted wife - - wherever she was, he wanted to be! He was an amazing cook and enjoyed food, wine, good music, and a serious conversation about history and politics.
Roy is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Marguerite (Giorgi) Argelander, his mother Erika Hall, and his sister Rose Zalaskus - both of which he had an especially close relationship with. He also has two brothers, Frank Landers (Cathy) and Chuck Argelander (Judi) and a sister, Cheryl Moosereiner (Erich). Roy will be missed greatly by his father-in-law, Joseph Giorgi, Sr. (Terri Kilgus), sister-in-law, Maria Panella, brothers-in-law, Joseph Giorgi, Jr (Dawn) and Thomas Giorgi, along with numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. He is predeceased by his father, Edward J. Argelander.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, October 7th at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 901 N DuPont Street, Wilmington, DE 19805, from 9 AM until 11 AM followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Entombment will be held privately at a later date.
