Roy "Butch" Covey Obituary

Roy F. "Butch" Covey, 64, of Newark, Delaware, passed away peacefully at home on June 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Known for his hardworking nature, generous heart, and unwavering devotion to those he loved, Butch lived a life centered on family, friendship, and community. Whether he was spending time with loved ones, helping a customer, or lending a hand to someone in need, he approached life with honesty, kindness, and a genuine appreciation for the people around him.

Butch married the love of his life, Virginia, in 1982. Together they built a loving family, a successful business, and shared 34 years of marriage until her passing in 2016. The life they built together and the family they raised remained one of his greatest accomplishments and sources of pride.

He was a devoted father to his four children: Brandi Wilson, Roy Covey and his fiancée, Jamie May, Amber Davis and her husband, Harold, and Tyler Covey and his fiancée, Rose. He was a proud grandfather to Christopher Wilson, Daniel Covey, Madison Covey, Taylor Covey, Mia Covey, and Aria Covey.

In 2019, Butch was blessed to find love again when he met then married Kim. Together they created a life filled with love, laughter, companionship, and new adventures. He welcomed Kim's children, Lauren Stankiewicz and her husband, Josh, and Michelle Cole, with open arms and cherished the opportunity to expand his family. He was also a proud step-grandfather to Madison Stankiewicz, Wesley Stankiewicz, Ava Cole, Liam Cole, and Charlotte Cole. The love and happiness they shared brought renewed joy to his life, and he was grateful for every moment spent together.

For many years, Butch and Virginia proudly owned and operated Midway Muffler Shop. Through determination, integrity, and countless hours of hard work, they built a successful business that became a respected part of the community. Butch genuinely loved his customers and valued the relationships he built over the years. Many customers became lifelong friends, and he took pride in providing honest service and helping others whenever he could. He also took great pride in teaching his sons the trade and passing down the skills, knowledge, and values that helped build the family business. One of Butch's greatest joys was seeing his sons, Roy and Tyler, continue the work he loved. Today, they proudly carry on the Midway Muffler Shop legacy, honoring the foundation that he built.

When he wasn't working, Butch enjoyed spending time fishing, taking vacations with family and friends, and bowling. He appreciated life's simple pleasures, including an ice-cold Pepsi and his beloved Marlboro Reds. Whether on the water, in the shop, or surrounded by family, he found happiness in the moments spent with the people he loved.

Butch was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia his parents, William and Catherine Covey; and his brothers, Frank Covey, William Covey, and Leonard Covey.

Above all else, Butch loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, step-grandfather, mentor, and friend whose love, guidance, and presence will be deeply missed. Though he may no longer be with us, his legacy lives on through the family he cherished, the business he built, and the countless lives he touched throughout his life.

Roy F. "Butch" Covey will be forever loved, deeply missed, and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
