Stephen R. Sparco, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025. He was born on October 21, 1954, in Wilmington, Delaware. He is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Lydia Sparco. Stephen will be cherished and remembered by his loving children Stephanie Smith (Josh) of Lewes, DE, Raquel Sparco of St. Petersburg, FL and Stephen Sparco Jr. of New York, NY. He was a proud Pop-Pop to grandchildren Jackson and Madeline Smith and granddog Lincoln. He is also survived by his sister, Victoria Hopkins (Ralph), two niece, Valerie Pietlock (Andrew) and Chandler Swift, a nephew, David Hopkins (Shannon) as well as many beloved godchildren, cousins and friends that he considered an extension of his family.
Stephen was a proud graduate of Salesianum School in 1972. He worked as a shipping manager for C & C Carriage Mushroom Company for 4 years prior to working at his family-owned restaurant, Madeline’s Italian Restaurant. Stephen eventually became the owner of Madeline’s which was originally started by his grandmother in 1961, a community staple for over 3 generations. After retirement, Stephen worked parttime with longtime friend, David Harwell, at Blue Hen Mechanical.
Stephen was a lover of Frank Sinatra music, a hunting enthusiast and talented chef. He was famous for his red sauce, porchetta, homemade sausage, and spizzato. Special memories were had by all at his many gatherings over the years. He was happiest when spending time with family or enjoying a “pop” with friends. He was even deemed the President of his informal weekly meetings with friends at Attilio’s and Feby’s.
Stephen’s children would like to thank the oncology team at University of Pennsylvania, especially Dr. Haas, for her expertise, compassion and special care of their Dad.
