January 31, 1920 ~ April 29, 2016 (age 96) 96 Years OldEllen A. DeLellis, age 96, affectionately known by many as Miss Ellen, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2016, surrounded by her loved ones. Miss Ellen was born in Wilmington, DE, on January 31, 1920. A graduate of Goldey Commercial College (now known as Goldey Beacom College) in 1940, Miss Ellen worked for the Diocese of Wilmington for approximately 60 years, retiring at the age of 85. Miss Ellen was a staple in the St. Anthony of Padua Parish community. She was well loved by the many graduating classes of St. Anthony's grade school as well as Padua Academy high school. Miss Ellen was also very involved with the annual St. Anthony's Italian Festival, volunteering countless hours assisting with the spaghetti dinners among other activities. A member of the women's Sodality, Miss Ellen's dedication to serving her community was recognized by many, including the Diocese of Wilmington through the Order of Merit award for her many years of service.
Miss Ellen is predeceased by her parents, Josephine and Antonio DeLellis of Wilmington, brother Vincent, and sisters Marie, Victoria, and Sophia. Miss Ellen will be greatly missed by her loving family. She is survived by her sister Angela, many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, as well as great-great nieces and nephews. Miss Ellen spent her final years under the primary care of her niece, Alice Crowley (Joseph), whom she loved as a daughter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9th & DuPont St. Wilmington, DE. Visitation will take place prior to the Mass after 9:30 AM. Burial services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to St. Anthony of Padua Church, 901 N. DuPont St., Wilmington, DE 19805.
